QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE CELBRATIONS IN EASINGWOLD,
JUNE 2012
4.1 To receive
suggestions and make comments from those attending the meeting on what form the
celebrations could take
The Clerk advised the Galtres Centre has provisionally
been booked for Saturday 2/6/12 - Tuesday
5/6/12 inclusive, although dates would need to be confirmed as quickly as
possible by the committee.
The Chairman advised the Methodist Church are having a
Flower Festival over the four days of the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Clerk advised that GH Smith Printers have kindly
offered to provide advertising in the
Easingwold Advertiser free of charge in support of the celebrations.
It was noted that the Olympic torch comes through York on
19/6/12
The following ideas were put forward
from those attending:
·
A concert on one of the
afternoons showcasing music in Easingwold; possibly involving Easingwold
Singers, the Town Band and the Jubilate. The ideal venue for this would be
Easingwold School, but enquiries would need to be made to establish
availability
·
There will be a Church
Service in the Memorial Park on Sunday 3/6/12 from 2pm; this will be lead by
Revd. Christine Peel who will liaise with all local churches to make a
community service. The Town Band are playing at the service
·
A live music event in
the Market Place, possibly in the Galtres Centre; jazz, blues, rock etc. There
would be the constraint of closing down early due to noise levels in the
evening, but the bands could possibly retire to local pubs
·
All events should be
free to the public
·
This event(s) should be
used as an opportunity to build community within the community and should not
be limited to existing organisations within Easingwold
·
Have a street party;
possibly in the Market Place. If this idea is taken up then Hambleton District
Council would need to give permission for road closures
·
Maypole on Market Green
or Galtres Centre Green; years ago the children at the primary school took part
in a similar event. Sponsorship for the purchase of a maypole may be required
·
Making of lots of
bunting by volunteers from various organisations e.g. scouts, cubs, guides,
schools etc.
·
Beacon lighting
·
Commemorative mugs;
either gifted from the Town Council or the council could organise a consignment
of mugs for anyone to purchase
·
Would wish to see a four
day event rather than choose one particular day to have the celebrations
4.2
To form the Diamond Jubilee Steering Committee
The members were agreed as follows:
Jane Wintermeyer, Richard Graves, Cllr Neil Madden, Cllr
Richard Tanfield, Charlotte Cranfield,
Joanne Nutbrown, Carol Hull, Sue Smith and District Cllr Nigel Knapton.
Cllr Madden will be responsible for reporting progress
back the Easingwold Town Council.
District Cllr Knapton agreed to be the Secretary of the
Steering Committee
It was agreed to hold the first meeting of the Diamond
Jubilee Steering Committee on Wednesday 5/10/11 at 7pm in the Council Chamber,
Galtres Centre. The committee will appoint a Chairman at the meeting.
4.3
Any further questions from the floor
·
Need to consider the
children; what events will be available for them?
Possibly a bouncy castle or bouncy slide
in either the Galtres Centre grounds or in the Memorial Park and a fancy dress
competition
·
Bed race for all
·
Would prefer to see any
money donated by the Town Council spent on the children and not on
commemorative mugs
·
Suggested that separate
groups should think about how to include the children as part of what they are
planning to do to celebrate the event
The Clerk was requested to include the following items on
the next Town Council Meeting agenda, for October’s meeting on the 18th
·
How much money can the
Town Council donate
·
How would the Town
Council wish to see the money spent, possibly paying for a bouncy castle?
·
To receive a progress
report from the Diamond Jubilee Steering Committee from Cllr Madden
The Chairman closed the meeting at
8.25pm.
